SUMMARY
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you are encountering an issue with your P5100SPE Petrol Electric Start Lawnmower, there are several possible solutions that could resolve this for you. Scroll down to see if your issue is listed below, and for the suggested resolution.
Please Note - Where necessary, all corrective actions should be carried out by suitably qualified persons.
Engine Does Not Start
In the event that your P5100SPE's engine is not starting, check the following and perform corrective actions as required:
- OPC cable not adjusted correctly
If your OPC (operator presence control) cable is incorrectly adjusted, this can prevent your engine from starting; more than 10mm movement in the OPC lever before the cable movement is an indication that your OPC cable requires adjustment - see "OPC Cable Adjustment" (pg. 18) in your user manual for further detail, or view the servicing video guide above (starting at 8:54).
- Fuel level / quality
Next, check the fuel level in the tank; if this is low or empty, add fuel and attempt to restart your engine. Alternatively, if the fuel level is adequate, it is possible the engine has become flooded, and you should allow 5-10 minutes before attempting to restart.
Fuel can also become "stale" if left in the engine for extended periods (28> days) - for this reason we always recommend draining your lawnmower if storing your machine for extended periods. Stale fuel will appear darker or "muddier" in appearance, and may even present an odour not typical of normal, "fresh" fuel; if you suspect the fuel in your has become stale, drain the fuel tank and carburettor float bowl thoroughly, and re-fuel with fresh, unleaded petrol.

- Air Filter is dirty / clogged
A dirty air filter restricts air flow to your lawnmower's carburettor, which reduces engine efficiency, and can cause failure. We strongly recommend checking the air after every 25 hours of use and replacing at least once a year. However, if you are operating your lawnmower in very dusty areas, you will have to check, clean, and/or replace the air filter more often; replacement air filters are available from our spare parts webstore: Power Spares

Please Note: You must NEVER operate your lawnmower without an air filter fitted - this will cause damage to your lawnmower's engine which will NOT be covered by warranty.

- Spark Plug - Loose / Disconnected / Incorrect Gap

Please Note: You MUST allow the engine to cool down, before carrying out any maintenance.

If your lawnmower's spark plug is not correctly fitted, this can prevent the engine from starting. Check that your spark plug is not loose and that the spark plug cap is securely fitted.
Ensure the spark plug is clean and without damage or defect - replacing if necessary - and that the plug gap is set to 0.7 ~ 0.8mm; for guidance on how to check and replace your P5100SPE's spark plug, see "The Spark Plug" (pg. 34) under the 'Maintenance & Care' section in your user manual for further detail, or view the servicing video guide above (starting at 1:11).
Spark Plug is Faulty
Where we have already covered engine failure due to an incorrectly fitted spark plug (see above) - we can also ensure that the spark plug itself is not at fault, with the following checks:
- Flooded Carburettor
If your P5100SPE's carburettor has become flooded with fuel, this will prevent the spark plug from sparking. First, remove the spark plug and air filter, then pull the starter cord until the carburettor clears - replace spark plug and air filter afterwards.
- Faulty Ignition Module
If you have checked your spark plug, ensured it is correctly fitted and that the carburettor is not faulted, and it still does spark correctly, it is possible that Ignition Module is at fault - contact Aftersales for further assistance.
Engine is Difficult to Start / Loses Power / Operates Erratically
In the event that your P5100SPE's engine is difficult to get started, or shortly after starting loses power or operates erratically, check the following and perform corrective actions as required:
- Fuel quality / efficiency
Ensure that the your P5100SPE is using unleaded petrol, and that it has not become stale or contaminated by dirt, water, or any other substance likely to inhibit its efficiency. If you suspect that the fuel in your lawnmower has become contaminated - drain and clean the tank, before re-filling with clean, fresh fuel.
Also, check that the vent hole in the fuel tank has not become blocked or clogged; clean or replace the fuel cap if necessary.
- Air Filter is dirty / clogged
We've said it before, and we'll say it again... A dirty air filter restricts air flow to your lawnmower's carburettor, which reduces engine efficiency, and can cause failure. We strongly recommend checking the air after every 25 hours of use and replacing at least once a year. However, if you are operating your lawnmower in very dusty areas, you will have to check, clean, and/or replace the air filter more often; replacement air filters are available from our spare parts webstore: Power Spares

- Spark plug is defective / gap is incorrect

Just as we would for engine failure (see above), check and ensure your lawnmower's spark plug is clean and without damage or defect - replacing if necessary - and that the plug gap is set to 0.7 ~ 0.8mm; for guidance on how to check and replace your P5100SPE's spark plug, see "The Spark Plug" (pg. 34) under the 'Maintenance & Care' section in your user manual for further detail, or view the servicing video guide above (starting at 1:11).
Engine Idles Poorly / Skips at High Speed
If you detect that your P5100SPE's engine is idling poorly, or has begun to skip at high speed, check the following and perform corrective actions as required:
- Spark plug is defective / gap is incorrect
As a matter of course, first check your spark plug - just as above, or see "The Spark Plug" (pg. 34) under the 'Maintenance & Care' section in your user manual for further detail; alternatively, you can view the servicing video guide above (starting at 1:11).
- Air slots / passages and cooling fins are blocked
Restricted air flow will also cause your engine to function inefficiently; check the housing, paying particular attention to the slots, cooling fins and air passages - clearing any debris where found.
- Air Filter is dirty / clogged
As the saying goes, third time's the charm... A dirty air filter restricts air flow to your lawnmower's carburettor, which reduces engine efficiency, and can cause failure. We strongly recommend checking the air after every 25 hours of use and replacing at least once a year. Engine Overheating

Please note - if your P5100SPE's engine is overheating, cease operating and do NOT take any action until it has sufficiently cooled.
An overheating engine can cause significant damage to your lawnmower - check the following criteria, and take action where necessary:
- Cooling airflow is restricted
Restricted air flow will cause your engine to overheat; ensure there are no blockages to air passages and blower housing, and check that the air slots and cooling fins are free of any debris.
- Incorrect spark plug
An incorrect spark plug can also cause overheating - ensure that the spark plug fitted is correct for the P5100SPE lawnmower:

Lawnmower Vibrates Excessively / Abnormally
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
Please note - Whilst there will be a slight amount of vibration caused by the operating of your P5100SPE, if you consider this to become excessive or abnormal, cease operating IMMEDIATELY and do NOT use the machine until the vibration issue has been fixed.
- Cutting assembly is loose
If the cutting assembly of your P5100SPE has come loose, this will cause vibration if operated, and possibly significant damage if not fixed - however, this can usually be resolved by tightening the blade. Refer to "Blade Maintenance" (pg. 37) under the 'Maintenance & Care' section in your user manual for further detail, or view the servicing video guide above (starting at 12:27).
- Cutting assembly / blade is unbalanced
If you suspect that the cutting assembly and/or blade has become unbalanced, contact our service team to have your lawnmower assessed and repaired under warranty.
