HYCP5030 Petrol Plate Compactor
The HYCP5030 Petrol Plate Compactor is powered by an 78.5cc 4-stroke recoil start petrol engine, with a large 1.6L fuel tank for long running. It's ideal for compacting loose soil, gravel and sand together to create a solid and even foundation, providing a cost-effective alternative to hiring for the building, construction and landscaping industries.
It's fitted with a large plate measuring 495mm x 320mm (L x W) for making quick work of large areas, and has a travelling speed of 25m/min, with a compaction depth of 150mm. The V-belt is covered by a guard which protects it from the knocks and bumps of construction work.
To help ensure that your HYCP5030 is kept in optimal condition, we've detailed some basic maintenance and troubleshooting advice below.
MAINTENANCE
⚠️ WARNING: ALWAYS stop the engine, allow it to cool, and remove the spark plug HT lead cap before effecting any maintenance or repairs.
Regular checks and maintenance of your HYCP5030 can prolong its operational life and help prevent damage from wear. We strongly recommend checking and maintaining the oil and fuel levels, and checking the tightness of all nuts, bolts, and screws, at regular intervals. Remember to ALWAYS fuel and defuel in a well-ventilated area, with the engine off and having been allowed to cool first.
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: Remember to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) whenever operating, or carrying out maintenance, on your HYCP5030
Check to see if any components are found to have become worn or damaged, these should be replaced for safety. Please note, you should only use manufacturer recommended parts and accessories; contact our dedicated parts supplier Power Spares for further information.
Cleaning your HYCP5030 at regular intervals, and especially after use, can prolong its operation and help prevent the build-up of dust and dirt that can cause damage over time. The HYCP5030 can be easily cleaned by using a brush to remove large pieces of debris before wiping down with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dirt, excess grease, etc.
You should NEVER use a pressure washer or hosepipe to clean your HYCP5030, as water can penetrate areas of the machine and cause damage to the spindles, pulleys, bearings, and engine.
Use a silicone-based grease to lubricate moving parts.
- OIL
Oil Type | SAE30 Mineral Oil or SA15W40 Mineral Oil |
You should always check the oil level prior to each use, and replace it every six months or every 100 hours.
It is worth noting that warm oil will drain more effectively - HOWEVER, we urge caution to avoid the risk of burns and strongly advise allowing the engine itself to cool before undertaking any maintenance; allow hot engine oil to cool to warm prior to changing.
Begin by cleaning the area around the oil filler/dipstick, and ensure no dirt or debris can enter the engine. Next, remove the oil filler/dipstick and place a suitable container beneath the oil drain plug; unscrew the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain.
Once the oil has drained, you should check the drain plug for damage and replace if necessary; replacement components are available from our dedicated parts website: Power Spares
Carefully re-install the drain plug, avoiding cross-threading, and then tighten securely. With your HYCP5030 on flat level ground, slowly fill the engine with fresh oil to the upper level mark on the dipstick, stopping occasionally to check the level.
Refit the oil filler cap/dipstick securely, and ensure to wipe up any spilt oil.
- AIR FILTER
A dirty air filter element affects the engine performance, increases fuel consumption, and will make it difficult to start - if you notice a loss in power, check the air filter.
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: NEVER run the machine without an air filter being installed!
First, ensure the air filter housing/cover is free of dust and debris - it is essential that you do not allow any dirt or debris to enter the carburettor; next, remove the cover by unscrewing the retaining nut. Once the cover is removed, gently remove the air filter element - once again taking care to ensure no dirt or debris can enter the carburettor chamber.
Remove the cover by unscrewing the retaining nut.
Once removed, gently tap the paper element to remove dirt or debris; (if necessary) use a low-pressure airline or vacuum to further clean the inside of the element and remove any remaining dust. If either the air-filter or housing show any sign of damage or wear, replace immediately. Replacement air-filter assemblies (and other parts) are available via Power Spares.
Once you have inspected and cleaned the air filter, reinstall and refit to your HYCP5030 accordingly.
- SPARK PLUG
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: Remember to ALWAYS replace the spark plug with the same model; incorrect spark plug installation can cause serious engine damage.
⚠️ CAUTION: Allow your engine to cool completely before attempting to remove the spark plug.
To replace your HYCP5030's spark plug, remove the HT lead cap, taking care to ensure no dirt or debris enters the cylinder bore. Using a plug wrench, unscrew the spark plug in an anti-clockwise direction.
HT Lead Cap
Inspect the spark plug and spark plug washer for any signs of wear or damage; if the plug shows any signs of wear or damage, replace immediately. The spark plug gap should by 0.70 - 0.80mm (0.028" - 0.031") - see image below for reference. Check the plug gap by using a feeler gauge - the gauge must drag a little when being slid between the electrodes. Carbon deposits can be removed using a dry cloth or soft wire brush.
Carefully refit your spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading; one the spark plug seats, tight to a torque of 12-15Nm.
- TENSIONING BELT
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: The normal belt deflection on each side should be 9 to 13mm. This should be checked after the first 20 hours of use, then every 50 hours thereafter.
Proper belt tensioning is critical to good performance and will ensure long belt life; too much or too little belt tension will cause premature belt failure.
To check or adjust belt tensioning, begin by undoing and removing the belt guard. Next, loosen (do not remove) the four engine mount bolts just enough to move the engine forward; loosen the jam nuts (B) leaving enough space between the nut and bracket:
Once done, push the the engine toward the back of the plate by turning the adjustment bolts (A) to remove any slack in the belt. When adjusting, ensure that the clutch pulley remains in alignment with the exciter pulley (see below):
Once properly tensioned, tighten the jam nuts (B) against the bracket, and then tighten the engine mount bolts and replace the belt guard.
⚠️ PLEASE NOTE: If the adjustment bolts have no more adjustment left, the belt will most likely require replacing.
To replace a belt, undo and remove the belt guard, then loosen (do not remove) the 4 engine mount bolts as before. Move the engine forwards, and loosen the jam nuts (B) and bolts (A); slide the engine toward the front plate and slip the belt off the pulley. Install the new belt and position over the engine pulley.
Move the engine back, ensuring the the clutch pulley is in alignment with the exciter pulley. Check tension is correct, and tighten the jam nuts (B) and the engine mount bolts. Once done, replace the belt guard.
- AGITATOR LUBRICATION
⚠️ Agitator is pre-filled with oil. Change oil every 200 hours use.
HYCP5030 | |
Agitator Oil Capacity (ml) | 120 |
Agitator Oil Type | SAE30 or 15W40 |
You MUST allow the agitator to cool prior to changing the oil. Once cooled, remove the belt guard and belt. Next, remove the bolts that secure the deck to the house and carefully lift the entire deck, with engine, away from the housing:
Remove the pipe plug for the top of the agitator housing, and place a suitable container beneath the machine.
With assistance, tilt the housing upside to allow the oil to drain; during this process, we recommend checking the oil that has drained for metal chips as a precaution. If there are metal chips or fragments present in the oil being drained, contact our technical department for further advice.
Once complete, return the housing to an upright position, and refill the agitator with the correct amount of oil, as specified in your manual - DO NOT overfill, as overfilling can cause excess oil to leak out of the breather; the breather is a hole drilled through the output shaft of the agitator.
Once the oil is at the correct level, apply pipe sealant to the pipe plug and reinstall into the top of the exciter housing. Finally, reinstall the deck, belt, and belt guard, as before.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- SUMMARY
- Engine fails to start
In the event of a non-starting engine, first check that the spark plug HT lead cap has not become disconnected; in the event that it has, re-attach and re-attempt to start engine. You should also check the spark plug for dirt or fouling, wiping clean (or replacing) as required. Next, check the fuel tank to ensure there is sufficient fresh fuel present. If there is insufficient fuel or if the fuel present has become "stale", drain the tank and fill with clean fresh fuel.
Fuel can become "stale" if left in the tank for extended periods (28> days) - for this reason we always recommend draining the fuel tank if storing your machine for extended periods. Stale fuel will appear darker or "muddier" in appearance, and may even present an odour not typical of normal, "fresh" fuel; if you suspect the fuel in your has become stale, drain thoroughly and re-fuel with fresh, unleaded petrol. Stale petrol can also cause your fuel line or carburettor to become dirty, which can eventually cause engine failure.
Next, check the throttle lever is in the correct starting position, and the choke is moved to the ON position. Check that the fuel line has not become blocked (see "stale fuel" above) and if necessary, gently clean with a pipe cleaner or replace as necessary.
If you suspect the engine has become flooded, wait 10-15 minutes before attempting to re-start, and do NOT re-prime.
- Engine runs erratically
If your HYCP5030's engine is running erratically, first ensure the choke lever has not been left on, and move to the OFF position if it has. Next, check that the spark plug wire is not loose; if it is found to be loose, re-connect and/or tighten as required.
As before, check fuel line and ensure that the fuel has not become stale. If you suspect the fuel system has become contaminated with water or dirt, drain and clean the fuel tank before re-filling with clean, "fresh" fuel. You should also check to ensure the fuel filler cap vent has not become plugged, and clear the vent of any obstruction if so.
You should also check and ensure that your machine's air filter is not dirty (see "Maintenance - Air Filter" above), and clean or replace as necessary - see Power Spares for replacement parts and accessories.
- Engine overheats
There are several factors that can result in an engine overheating; first, as before, check that the air filter has not become dirty or clogged, cleaning or replacing as necessary. Also check that airflow has not become restricted; remove the blower housing and inspect, cleaning as required.
Next, check that the oil level is not too low, and fill to the correct level if necessary.
- Engine does not stop when throttle in 'STOP' position
This will most likely be due to debris interfering with the throttle linkage; check and clean/remove debris - if the issue persists, contact our technical department for further assistance.
- Compactor is difficult to control when in operation
This will most likely be due to debris interfering with the throttle linkage; check and clean/remove debris - if the issue persists, contact our technical department for further assistance.
